Li-Ion batteries have been improved 30 Percent by lab

argonne20materialsA couple of problems faced by the widely-used lithium-ion notebook  batteries are the risk of overcharging and the subsequent degradation of charging capability. Research for the improvement of lithium-ion has reached a milestone in Argonne National Laboratory where longer battery life and a 30 percent increase in storage capacity have been achieved. To be able to prevent overheating and combustion, researchers replace cobalt oxide electrodes (which easily overheat) with manganese oxide--a more stable material.

Furthermore, in order to increase the battery's storage capacity, researchers form a composite by mixing inactive materials with electrochemically active ones. Being inactive, the former doesn't incur any charge, and hence adds stability to the apple laptop battery. With the composite in place, laptop batteries can reportedly be charged and discharged for 1,500 times, which is twice the lithium-ion's usual lifespan. More importantly, this composite can store 20 to 30 percent more energy than today's version.

This new technology is seeing its first step towards market availability with its licensing to Japanese company, Toda Kogyo. The Japanese firm is said to be able to manufacture 30 million laptop batteries with this new technology. Now that the development of the technology applied on apple a1175 battery,apple a1185 battery is done, the Argonne team is researching it further for hybrid car application.

Connecting Battery in Parallel or Series

We frequently get asked the question, "How am I supposed to connect my battery if I want to double the capacity but not the voltage?", or similar questions. It can be confusing if you've never done it, but hopefully this'll make it simpler. Be sure to read the important notes at the bottom to protect yourself from damaging any equipment!

Connecting in Series
When connecting your batteries in Series you are doubling the voltage while maintaining the same capacity rating (amp hours). This might be used in a scooter, Power Wheels kids vehicle, or other applications. Just use a jumper wire between the negative of the first battery and the positive of the second battery. Run your negative wire off of the open connector from the first battery and your positive off of the open connector on your second battery.

Connecting in Parallel
When connecting in Parallel you are doubling the capacity (amp hours) of the sony pcga-bp1n battery,sony pcga-bp2nx battery while maintaining the voltage of one of the individual batteries. This would be used in applications such as laptop batteries, some scooters, some ups backups, etc. Use a jumper wire between the positives of both batteries and another jumper wire between the negatives of both batteries. Connect your positive and negative wires to the same battery to run to your application.

When connecting batteries in a pack you should try to match the capacities as much as possible to avoid discharging one battery quicker than another. A pack operates at a combined voltage so your one cell that discharges quicker will likely discharge deeper than it may be able to recover from.
